Laura Marr
Laura Marr BA (Hons) Dip Arch RIBA ARB
Laura was an Associate at Pollard Thomas Edwards (PTE) and has been practising as an architect for over 20 years in award winning UK practices: Edward Cullinan Architects and PTE. She was a senior project architect, on housing and school projects, with a focus on design, management and collaboration at design delivery stages.
Laura has taught in numerous universities and has mentored architecture students with their professional studies for many years and managed this at PTE. She has also contributed to publications and events on sustainability, timber detailing, integrated landscapes and school design.
Outside the office Laura has been involved in self-build projects: learning through making. Front Line House was a collaborative self-build project with ex-partner Richard White who studied architecture with Laura at Westminster University. Much of the building works were carried out by Richard and Laura including major structural works, lowering floors, inserting steels where load bearing walls were demolished etc. over many years. Laura took out a loan and managed the final stage of the project including the design and procurement of the finishes and fittings, external cladding and garden, producing all the drawings required for building control approval and build with SW Chelsea. Laura organised the photography and entry into the Don’t Move Improve competition, just before the house was sold.
Front Line House was longlisted by New London Architecture to feature in the Don't Move, Improve! 2017 awards, exhibition and publication: celebrating London’s best-designed and most innovative home extensions completed in the last two years across the capital.
